Landmark Theatres – Seed Commissions

Our seed commission programme is a new artist development opportunity for artists living and/or working in North Devon and the surrounding areas who are making new work, delivered by Landmark Theatres Ltd
This initiative is a creative attachment to Landmark Theatres for emerging or developing theatre makers who are creating original, vibrant, engaging and accessible work that is reflective of North Devon and it’s communities.
Who we are looking for:
- Emerging or developing artists and companies who are either based in, or with a demonstrable commitment to making and presenting work in Northern Devon.
- Emerging or developing artists and companies who want to make new work between now and September 2024.
- Artists/ companies who have previously made work professionally. The programme can be applied for by early or mid-career artists/ companies.
- Work that represents the people of North Devon and the spirit of the community. We want to hear from artist who have something to say and want to make bold and exciting work for diverse audiences.
What we offer:
- A seed commission of £1500 to go towards your development/ production budget
- Free rehearsal space at the at the Landmark Theatre (subject to availability)
- Artistic mentoring and producing support delivered by the Landmark Theatres team
- Dramaturgical and developmental support for your idea
- Bespoke monthly programme of masterclass workshops in theatre making craft and performance skills between February – May 2024
- Potential of work in progress programming at the Barnstaple’s Fringe TheatreFest in June 2024* (see below)
- Programming at the Landmark Theatre in September 2024
- Support in fundraising and writing project grant applications
- Support with inviting industry professionals to see your work
We will be collaborating with our friends Multi Story Theatre to find the right people to deliver masterclass opportunities to artists in North Devon and support with programming.
*There is potential for additional performances of work created as part of Barnstaple’s Fringe Theatrefest. Fringe Theatrefest operates a balloted programming system for performances in ticketed Fringe Venues, so space in a ticket venue cannot be guaranteed Companies also have the opportunity to apply for less formal “Alt Space” venues which are “pay as you will” and are offered on a first come first served basis. We will also accept video or audio applications of up to 2-minutes in response to the questions from the application pack. Please send audio/ visual files to the same email as above of via weTransfer.

What happens next:
The creative team at Landmark Theatres will review your submission and if your application is successful at this stage you will be invited to an informal 30 minute interview. Following that we will make our final selection.
We will aim to let candidates know the outcome of the first stage of applications by 12th February

Feb – May – masterclass programme and show development
June – Work in progress presentations
July & August – Further development
September – Final shows to invited industry delegates
